Education Minister Ranoj Pegu recently unveiled the specifics of this year’s evaluation process during a press conference held in Dibrugarh. The assessment will cover a vast network of 43,498 government schools spread across 35 districts, with a student population totaling 39,63,542.
‘Gunotsav’ emphasizes active participation from all stakeholders, including teachers, students, administrators, and local communities. This holistic engagement is expected to foster accountability and contribute to an overall enhancement of the quality of education in Assam.

Three Phases of Assessment
The evaluation process will unfold in three distinct phases. The first phase, spanning from January 3 to 6, will cover 12 districts. The second phase, from January 9 to 12, will involve 13 districts, and the final phase, scheduled from February 5 to 8, will comprise the remaining 10 districts. Pegu emphasized that ‘Gunotsav 2024’ serves a dual purpose: identifying learning gaps in each child and ensuring quality education with grade-specific outcomes.
Gunotsav 2024 began on January 3 and will run until February 8 to evaluate and improve the state’s 35 school districts’ overall level of instruction. In addition to KGBVs, Residential Schools, Adarsha Institutions, 43,498 Government, Provincialized, Tea Garden Model Schools, Vidyalayas, and Tea Garden Management Schools will also be included in the review. 39, 63,542 kids from classes 1st to 9th are expected to participate extensively in this extensive program. 18,098 External Evaluators who are grouped according to enrolment numbers will be strategically placed throughout the state to ensure that the assessment is carried out precisely. This covers 250 for IEEs, 251 to 499 for 2EEs, and enrollment of 500 and higher, with 10% set aside for 3EEs.
Assam Gunotsav 2024 Guidelines
The important guidelines are as follows:
- There will be two different kinds of evaluations i.e., Self-evaluation 1 and External evaluation 2
- 90% of marks will be awarded for academic work, 5% for co-curricular activities, and 5% for community service.
- 42, 76,881 students from Classes I through VIII are covered.
- The purpose of the Gunotsav 2024 Question Paper is to analyse educational strengths, identify learning gaps, and enhance education.
