Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas has passed away following a prolonged illness. The news was confirmed in a social media post by his daughter Nayaab Udhas. Reports citing family sources indicate that the Chitthi Ayee Hai and Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein singer breathed his last at a Mumbai hospital around 11 am. The last rites will be held on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for Ghazal master Pankaj Udhas’s demise on February 26.Sharing the news of Pankaj Udhas’ death on his Instagram, singer Sonu Nigam wrote, “One of the most important part of my childhood, is lost today. Shri Pankaj Udhas ji, I will miss you forever. My heart cries knowing that you are no more. Thank you for being there. Om Shanti.”

Born on May 17, 1951, in Jetpur, Gujarat, Pankaj Udhas began his career with the launch of the ghazal album titled “Aahat” in 1980. Swiftly, he became synonymous with ghazal music in India.
