The Ministry of Minority Affairs in India will conduct in coordination with Haj Committee of India, Haj Qurrah 2024 (Hajj 2024 Qurrah, Hajj 1445 H Qurrah also known as Hajj Lottery and Hajj Draw) using a centralised Random Digital Selection process today i.e. Monday January 29, 2024.

Hajj Qurrah 2024 or Haj 1445H Draw will be conducted today to select the final list of pilgrims who wish to embark on pilgrimage to Makkah. The qurrah, also known as draw or lottery, is needed because Saudi Arabia only allows limited number of pilgrims from each country for the annual pilgrimage.

The quota of pilgrims is decided by Saudi Arabia based on the population of Muslims in the respective countries. Accordingly, India has been allotted a quota of 175,025 pilgrims for this year’s Hajj.

 Citizens aspiring to undertake the haj tour can heave a sigh of relief as the state has received 9,140 additional seats, subsequently reducing the long waiting list.The total quota for Maharashtra earlier was 10,509, which has increased to 19,649 seats.Shaikh Faisal, the general secretary of the Federation of Haj Pilgrims Social Workers of Maharashtra, said the surplus seats for the state have been generated from other states where applications were fewer.

The authorities have received a total of 27,283 Haj applications from Maharashtra, and the waiting list has reduced to 7,634 after the additional seats. It is good news for pilgrims as many can now fulfil their dream of performing the holy pilgrimage.The haj applicants include 1,306 people in the 70-plus age category, 166 females without a mahram (male guardian) and 25,811 citizens in the general category.

The list of selected and waitlisted pilgrims can be accessed on the admin portal of the supervisor login and the Haj Committee of India website. Additionally, the selected pilgrims will receive an SMS notification,” the Committee has said in its communication with all states on Sunday.

Out of India’s total Haj quota, 20% is allotted to Hajj Tour Operators (PTOs) and Hajj Group Orgainsers (HGOs). Besides this, some seats are also reserved for Khuddam (Khadim ul Hujjaj), officers and other staff deputed to help the Indian Embassy in Jeddah.

Some seats are also reserved for female pilgrims without mehrum and those above 70 years of age. Draw of lots and qurrah is then conducted for the remaining seats to select the final list of pilgrims.

Hajj Qurrah being held for 1,40,020 seats. According to Haj Committee of India, it has received a total of 174,000 applications from different states. It means there is an excess of 34,000 applications than the allotted Haj quota of India.

The Haj Committee also said it has received 6,300 applications of those over 70 years of age and 5,000 applications of woman without Mahram. Thus, a total of 11,300 pilgrims under the two categories will be selected directly and without the draw.

From 2023, the Minority Affairs Ministry, which also looks after the Hajj affairs in India, has decided to conduct centralised Random Digital Selection process and prepare the final list of Hajj pilgrims.

According to Haj Committee of India, the random selection will start at 11:00 am Monday. The process will be fully online.

The qurrah result will be published by the Haj Committee of India on its official website. Selected pilgrims will also be intimated on their registered mobile numbers.

Along with the result of the confirmed pilgrims, a waiting list of pilgrims will also be published by the Ministry and Haj Committee of India.
